Social media content creators are responsible for consistently elevating The State News' social media and community presence. Through this role, social media content creators are responsible for developing strategies to build The State News' brand and engage with readers both online and in-person through organic social media posts and website content. Content creators will ensure that The State News maintains an all-around presence on all social media platforms equally.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Works with the audience engagement editor and others on the desk to schedule and post content across Facebook, Twitter, sports Twitter when applicable, Instagram, Tik Tok, and other social media platforms.
  • Craft effective social media messages that engage The State News audience in innovative ways utilizing platform-specific functions.
  • Works with the audience engagement editor to suggest content for the daily newsletter recapping that day's online journalism.
  • Actively reads online comments and informs the audience engagement editor, editor-in-chief, and/or managing editor when problems arise.
  • Helps build The State News brand by creating a consistent, up-to-date social media presence and tone to drive traffic to the website.
  • Works with newsroom leadership to consistently develop and execute engagement events hosted by The State News to engage with community members and readers.
  • Use Parse.ly, Google Analytics, and Facebook/Twitter/Instagram analytics to inform social media strategy, including posting times, types of content, etc.
  • Understands the importance of working outside of business hours to respond to breaking news.
  • Goes beyond just posting scheduled content and works to develop innovative and engaging social media posts and campaigns.
  • Communicates with editors to determine how key stories can be elevated with social media, this could mean additional social media posts, innovative social media use, etc.
  • Works with the editor-in-chief, managing editor, and audience engagement editor to effectively communicate and establish shared social media goals and a cohesive digital brand.
  • Stays up to date with social media platform changes and emerging platforms and makes recommendations about how The State News could utilize these changes.
  • Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the editor-in-chief.
