  • The administration reporter is responsible for covering Michigan State University's administration and administrative decisions and policies. This reporter attends MSU's Board of Trustees meetings and stays up to date with MSU news. As an administration reporter, this person is the first point of contact when breaking news involving MSU admin occurs and should work to be available to cover said news more often than not.


    • Produces at least three stories a week related to MSU administration and administrative policies.
    • Works to find the most engaging and interesting stories related to MSU administrative policies and concerns while finding the most engaging, interesting, and interactive ways to tell these stories in print and on the web. 
    • Thinks of the best ways to tell these stories in print ' examples include ASF's, graphics, etc. With print being a weekly product, stories should focus on overall trends and reflections. 
    • Thinks of the best ways to tell these stories on the web ' examples include slideshows, graphics, interactive, charts, graphs, video, audio, podcasts, etc. 
    • Attends MSU Board of Trustees meetings and writes follow-up stories in a timely manner.
    • Covers events via social media with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook when appropriate. 
    • Coordinates with photo and design for visuals to accompany stories. . 
    • Works with the editors and fellow reporters when breaking news happens to ensure it is covered and someone gets to the scene as quickly as possible. 
    • Holds regular weekly meetings with MSU administration sources to build source-reporter relationships and scope out ledes for possible administration stories or concerns.
    • Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
    • Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair, and accurate.
    • Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the editor-in-chief.
    • Primarily responsible for writing administration stories, but is not limited to those stories and can also write other types of articles.
