OVERVIEW

3 days per week, $28.00 per day, 3 articles per week, 6 articles per pay period, $168 per 2 week pay period

The senior football reporter is responsible for covering MSU's football team during the season. This reporter attends MSU's football games and stays up to date with football news. As the senior football reporter, this person is responsible for guiding The State News' coverage of MSU football and will be the first point of contact if football-related breaking news should occur.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produces at least three stories a week related to MSU's football team, including analysis stories, columns, features, post-game standup, and gamers.
  • Produces at least one of those three weekly stories in a video format, either through Animoto or as a standalone video project with a videographer.
  • Guides coverage of the MSU football team, and works with the junior football reporter to do so.
  • Attends as many home games as current health and budget restrictions allow and write follow-up stories in a timely manner.
  • Watches and reports on away games as thoroughly as possible without putting one's health at risk.
  • Works to find the most engaging and interesting stories related to MSU football while finding the most engaging, interesting, and interactive ways to tell these stories in print and on the web.
  • Thinks of the best ways to tell these stories in print ' examples include ASF's, graphics, etc. With print being a weekly product, stories should focus on overall trends and reflections. 
  • Thinks of the best ways to tell these stories on the web ' examples include slideshows, graphics, interactive, charts, graphs, video, audio, podcasts, etc. 
  • Covers events with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook when appropriate. 
  • Coordinates with photo and design for visuals to accompany stories. 
  • Looks in unique places for sports-related stories.
  • Works with the editors and fellow reporters when breaking news happens to ensure it is covered and someone gets to the scene as quickly as possible. 
  • Stays well-informed on the happenings with MSU football and other sports. 
  • Develops source relationships by talking with sources weekly to ensure The State News stays in the loop with football-related news.
  • Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
  • Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair, and accurate.
  • Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the editor-in-chief.
  • Primarily responsible for writing football stories, but is not limited to those stories and can also write other types of articles.
