OVERVIEW

2 days per week, $25 per day, 2 articles per week, 4 articles per pay period, $100 per 2 week pay period

The junior football reporter is responsible for covering Michigan State University's football team during the 2020-21 season. This reporter attends MSU's football games and stays up to date with MSU football news. As a junior football reporter, this person works to be available to cover football-related breaking news more often than not.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produces at least two stories a week related to MSU's football team, including analysis stories, columns, features, post-game standup, and gamers.
  • Works to find the most engaging and interesting stories related to MSU football while finding the most engaging, interesting, and interactive ways to tell these stories in print and on the web.
  • Attends as many home games as current health and budget restrictions allow and write follow-up stories in a timely manner.
  • Watches and reports on away games as thoroughly as possible without putting one's health at risk.
  • Thinks of the best ways to tell these stories in print ' examples include ASF's, graphics, etc. With print being a weekly product, stories should focus on overall trends and reflections. 
  • Thinks of the best ways to tell these stories on the web ' examples include slideshows, graphics, interactive, charts, graphs, video, audio, podcasts, etc. 
  • Covers events with Twitter, Instagram, Facebook when appropriate. 
  • Coordinates with photo and design for visuals to accompany stories. 
  • Looks in unique places for sports-related stories.
  • Works with the editors and fellow reporters when breaking news happens to ensure it is covered and someone gets to the scene as quickly as possible. 
  • Stays well-informed on the happenings with MSU football and other sports. 
  • Talks with sources daily and works with the sports editor to help form relationships with sources.
  • Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
  • Creates stories that are informative, interesting, fair, and accurate.
  • Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the editor-in-chief.
  • Primarily responsible for writing football stories, but is not limited to those stories and can also write other types of articles.
