The multimedia manager is responsible for guiding The State News' video and audio content. Daily tasks include guiding videographers, podcasters, and photographers through projects and acting as a bridge between them and newsroom leadership. 


  • Responsible for guiding all videos, podcasts, and audio stories published in print and on the web.
  • Ensures that all videographers and podcast producers meet their individual weekly content goals and that interests and concerns related to campus, city, and sports are being documented through video and audio stories.
  • Brainstorms unique ways integrate multimedia into The State News' content. This can range from using video or photos to complement stories to reporting stories through said mediums.
  • Works with audience engagement editor to utilize Instagram and YouTube to showcase multimedia content on a regular basis.
  • Works with reporters, editors, and designers to brainstorm video and audio for stories on the web and helps them execute these ideas.
  • Brainstorms unique ways to tell stories of interest through audio and video.
  • Assigns audio and video stories and podcasts and works with videographers and producers to provide guidance on how each assignment might be covered.
  • Assists videographers and podcasters with the editing process.
  • Reviews videos to ensure they are error-free and communicate a clear story, and provides feedback to videographers as needed.
  • Reviews podcasts to ensure they are error-free and communicate clear ideas, and provides feedback to podcasters as needed.
  • Works with videographers and podcasters to set deadlines and accountability measures, communicates with their desk and newsroom leadership about when video and audio content is done and ready to be published.
  • Post videos to YouTube and CEO and podcasts to Spotify, Apple Music, Soundcloud, and CEO.
  • Works with reporters and editors outside the audio and video desk to determine if and how audio and video stories can be used for storytelling.
  • Edits, formats, and finalizes podcast scripts put together by podcast producers.
  • Edits podcasts by removing auditory mistakes, inputting music, and putting soundbites together.
  • Works with podcast coordinator to set deadlines throughout the podcast production process, including when scripts need to be submitted, when podcast episodes need to be recorded, when podcasts need to be engineered, etc.
  • With the podcast coordinator, leads podcast meetings to review segment ideas and scripts.
  • Keeps an eye out for breaking news and responds accordingly.
  • Meets regularly with the editor-in-chief to keep them updated on progress and any potential problems or concerns.
  • Attends daily budget meetings to schedule videos and podcasts to be published online based on budget meeting conversations.
  • Attends weekly editorial board meetings and contributes ideas for editorials and their personal opinion on editorial topics.
  • Attends weekly development meetings to provide updates on the progress of stories and projects related to the audio and video desk.
  • Understands what content is being produced at The State News and makes recommendations on where coverage could be strengthened or expanded upon.
  • Present on paper days to help edit pages before they're sent off to print.
  • Understands the importance of working outside business hours to respond to breaking news.
  • Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the editor-in-chief.
