3 days per week $35 per day, 3 videos per week, 6 per pay period, $210 per 2 week pay period

A senior video reporter is responsible for telling visual stories related to MSU's campus, the city of East Lansing and MSU's sports. Videographers will have the opportunity to create videos related to reporter articles and also work on their own visual storytelling projects.


  • Shoots at least three videos per week related to MSU's campus, the city of East Lansing, and/or MSU's sports. These videos can be event-related, more features oriented, or long-form.
  • Shoots at least one video to compliment a reporter's written story, coordinating with said reporter to understand angle and meet with sources.
  • Most videos should be 1 to 1.5 minutes. They can be longer if the subject matter warrants it.
  • Works to find the most engaging and interesting stories while finding the most engaging, interesting, and interactive ways to tell these stories.
  • Looks in unique places for video-ready stories. 
  • Finds a balance between serious profile pieces and light-hearted stories.
  • Goes beyond covering events, also finds interesting people, clubs, organizations, etc.
  • Works to think outside the box when it comes to video coverage, thinking about diverse communities and how news impacts them
  • Responsible for the correct identification of individuals pictured in videos and for correct lower thirds on all video shots. Text in videos should also follow grammar and AP style standards.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of video equipment.
  • Must check out/check-in video equipment for assignments.
  • Works with editors, reporters, and other videographers when breaking news happens to ensure it is covered and someone gets to the scene as quickly as possible.
  • Stays well-informed on the happenings with MSU's campus, the city of East Lansing and MSU's sports and is connected with active groups.
  • Talks with sources daily, works with the audio and video editor to form relationships with sources.
  • Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
  • Creates visual stories that are informative, interesting, fair, and accurate.
  • Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the editor-in-chief.
  • Primarily responsible for creating videos and has the freedom to pursue their own visual storytelling projects.
