3 days per week $25 per day, 3 podcasts per week, $150 per 2 week pay period

The podcast coordinator is responsible for telling audio stories related to MSU's campus, the city of East Lansing and MSU's sports. The producer's main task is to coordinate and develop podcasts through collaborating with the multimedia editor, reporters and other newsroom staffers.


  • Manages and coordinates The State News' various podcasts.
  • Works with multimedia manager to set deadlines throughout the podcast production process, including when scripts need to be submitted, when podcast episodes need to be recorded, when podcasts need to be engineered, etc.
  • Coordinates who will be involved in each podcast, reaching out to other staffers about their participation, and designates hosts and guests for podcast episodes.
  • Works with other staffers to write episode scripts and works with the multimedia editor to finalize those scripts.
  • Attends all podcast recordings to work the soundboard during episode recordings.
  • Communicates with the multimedia manager about when podcast episodes are ready for editing and publishing.
  • With the multimedia editor, leads podcast meetings to review segment ideas and scripts.
  • Pitches segment ideas during podcast meetings and seek to find unique ways to use audio for storytelling.
  • Works with podcast hosts to ensure the best possible readings of the episode scripts, including coaching and pre-recording run-throughs.
  • Promotes maintains and improves The State News' podcasts to develop a strong listener base and following.
  • Works to find the most engaging and interesting stories while finding the most engaging, interesting, and interactive ways to tell these stories.
  • Looks in unique places for audio stories. 
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of audio equipment.
  • Works with editors, reporters, and other videographers when breaking news happens to ensure it is covered and someone gets to the scene as quickly as possible.
  • Stays well-informed on the happenings with MSU's campus, the city of East Lansing and MSU's sports and is connected with active groups.
  • Maintains journalistic ethics and social media ethics.
  • Creates audio stories that are informative, interesting, fair, and accurate.
  • Maintains regular newsroom office hours as assigned by the editor-in-chief.
  • Primarily responsible for creating audio stories and podcast episodes, but also has the freedom to pursue their own audio storytelling projects.
